Islam is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It means 'submission to the will of God'. Muslims believe in one God (Allah), prophets, angels, holy books, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree.

Tawheed is the absolute oneness of Allah. It is the foundation of Islam — there is no god but Allah. He is the only Creator, Sustainer, and worthy of worship. Associating partners with Allah (Shirk) is the greatest sin.

The Quran is the holy book of Islam, revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through Angel Jibril over 23 years. It is the literal word of Allah, preserved in its original Arabic. It covers guidance for personal life, law, morality, and social justice.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was the final Messenger of Allah, born in Makkah in 570 CE. He received the first revelation at age 40 in Cave Hira. He unified Arabia under Islam, established the first Muslim community in Madinah, and passed away in 632 CE.

Hajj is the annual pilgrimage to Makkah, obligatory once in a lifetime for every Muslim who is physically and financially able. It takes place from 8th–12th Dhul Hijjah and involves circling the Kaaba, standing at Arafat, and symbolizing Ibrahim's sacrifice.

Zakat is mandatory charity — 2.5% of your accumulated wealth (above Nisab threshold) given annually to the poor and needy. It purifies wealth and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Riba is any unjust increase in a transaction — essentially interest. It is strictly forbidden in Islam. This includes bank interest, loan interest, and any guaranteed return on lending. Halal alternatives include profit-sharing (Mudarabah) and joint ventures.

This is debated among scholars. Most scholars agree that instruments are generally discouraged or prohibited. Singing without instruments (nasheed) is widely accepted. Some scholars permit music that doesn't promote sin or distract from worship.

Dogs are not haram. They are considered clean animals. There is a difference of opinion on keeping them as pets — some scholars allow it for guarding, hunting, or herding. Islamic tradition states that angels do not enter homes with dogs, but this is specific to certain types.

The Shahada is the Islamic declaration of faith: 'La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah' — There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger. Reciting this sincerely makes one a Muslim. It must be said before death if possible.

After death, the soul is questioned in the grave (Barzakh) by angels Munkar and Nakir. On the Day of Judgment, all people will be resurrected and judged by Allah for their deeds. The righteous enter Paradise (Jannah) and the wicked face Hellfire (Jahannam).

The five daily prayers (Salah) were prescribed during the Prophet's ﷺ Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj). They serve as a direct connection with Allah, a reminder of faith, a protection from sin, and a means of spiritual elevation. The Quran calls it 'distasteful to hypocrites' (9:54) — meaning it tests sincerity.

Jihad means 'struggle' or 'striving'. The greater Jihad is the internal struggle against one's ego and sins. The lesser Jihad is physical defense of the Muslim community. Terrorism and killing civilians are categorically forbidden (haram) in Islam.

Halal means 'permissible' in Arabic. In food, it refers to what is allowed to eat according to Islamic law — properly slaughtered meat, no pork, no alcohol. In broader terms, halal encompasses anything that is permissible in Islam.

Muslim men can marry Women of the Book (Christians and Jews) with conditions. Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men. The marriage must be conducted according to Islamic law, and the non-Muslim spouse should not be prevented from practicing their faith.
