Biography
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is a veteran Pakistani politician who has served as Chief Minister of Punjab twice and was a founding leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). Born on 1 November 1945 in Gujrat, he belongs to the influential Chaudhry political family of the region.
Political career
Pervaiz Elahi entered politics in the 1980s and served as an adviser to his cousin, Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He was elected Speaker of the Punjab Assembly and later served as Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007 under the PML-Q, which was allied with President Musharraf. His first tenure was noted for infrastructure and development projects across the province.
After years in opposition, he regained the Chief Minister's office in 2022, briefly heading the Punjab government with PTI support before the province fell into political turbulence. He has remained an active figure in Punjab politics, contesting from his family's stronghold of Gujrat, and in recent years has faced legal proceedings related to corruption cases.
