Biography
Dashrath Chand (1903–1941) was one of the four great martyrs of Nepal who sacrificed their lives fighting for democracy against the Rana regime. Born in Tansen, Palpa, Chand was a journalist and writer who used his pen to challenge the autocratic Rana rule. He was arrested for his revolutionary activities and executed in 1941. His sacrifice inspired the democracy movement that eventually ended Rana rule in 1951. Dashrath Chand is celebrated every year on Magh 16 as Martyrs' Day in Nepal. His courage and sacrifice have made him a national hero.
