Rohit Sharma

Rohit Gurunath Sharma (born 30 April 1987) is an Indian cricketer and the current captain of the Indian cricket team in all formats. Known as the "Hitman" for his explosive batting, Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in One Day International cricket (264 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014) and has scored three double centuries in ODIs — a feat no other cricketer has achieved. Born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Sharma was raised in Mumbai and made his international debut in 2007. Initially seen as a talented but inconsistent middle-order batsman, Sharma was reinvented as an opener in 2013, and this move transformed his career. As an opener, he became one of the most prolific run-scorers in ODI cricket history. Sharma has scored over 10,000 ODI runs, over 4,000 Test runs, and over 4,000 T20I runs. He holds the record for the most sixes in T20 international cricket (over 180) and the most centuries in T20Is (5). He led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, making them the most successful franchise in IPL history. As Indian captain, Sharma led the team to victory in the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup — India's second T20 World Cup title. After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, he retired from T20 internationals but continues to lead India in Tests and ODIs.
