Biography
Sana Mir is a former captain of the Pakistan women's cricket team and one of the most influential figures in the history of women's sport in Pakistan. Born on 5 January 1986 in Abbottabad, she took up cricket at an academy in Rawalpindi and went on to lead the national side for a decade.
Career
Sana made her international debut in 2005 and captained Pakistan from 2009 to 2017. Under her leadership, Pakistan won gold at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games, reached the semi-finals of the 2012 Women's T20 World Cup, and recorded landmark victories, including a first-ever win over a top-ranked side.
She took 151 ODI wickets — the most by any Pakistani woman — and was the first Pakistani woman to top the ICC women's bowling rankings. She also scored over 2,000 international runs as an all-rounder. She retired from international cricket in 2019.
Beyond cricket
After retiring, Sana Mir became a prominent commentator, columnist and advocate for women's sport, speaking globally about gender equality in cricket. She was named in the ICC Women's Committee and has received multiple honours for her contribution to the game, making her a trailblazer for women's cricket in Pakistan.
